A Powell man faces a charge of possession after his history of failing to appear in court led to his arrest during a traffic stop. At around 7:05 p.m. on June 22, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy was stopped on Juniper Hills Road when a vehicle passed with a badly broken windshield. The Wyoming Department of Corrections announced last week that inmate Fred Schon had died at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Facility in Torrington. In 2021, the 87-year-old was sentenced in Crook County to up to 40 years of incarceration for second degree sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 13. A Minnesota man has been given a suspended sentence on possession charges after both methamphetamine and marijuana were found on his person and in his vehicle during a traffic stop. On October 4, 2023, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was patrolling U.S. Hwy 212 near milepost 16 when he saw a vehicle traveling east at a high rate of speed.
