Josh Idler of Sundance has changed his plea to guilty on two felony counts of child abuse and one of aggravated assault and battery. Idler has also admitted to breaking the terms of his probation on a previous case in which he was adjudicated guilty of counts including reckless endangerment, child abuse and domestic abuse. In a hearing before Judge James Michael Causey on Thursday, Idler agreed to plead guilty to the three felonies and probation violation in exchange for the state dropping the additional five charges against him. Carter Nielson Stephens, or "Niel" as he was known to most, passed away on October 22, 2023, at Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance, Wyoming at the age of 88. Niel was born on November 9, 1934 in Spearfish, South Dakota to L.D. and AnnaBelle (Nielsen) Stephens. He was raised with his younger brother, Pete, in Alva, Wyoming. Their mother taught at various rural schools, so that is where Niel got his early education. He went on to graduate from Hulett High School. In 1957, he was drafted into the Army. Loren Christensen, 75 of Spearfish, South Dakota, was born on December 27, 1947, in Deadwood, South Dakota and passed away on October 25, 2023.
