  • Setting boundaries

    Sarah Pridgeon|Oct 7, 2021

Representatives from the northeast of Wyoming met on Thursday to address redistricting in Crook, Weston and Campbell counties. This process will redefine the boundaries of each voting district across the state, which in turn dictates which citizens each legislator is responsible for. The informational session was an opportunity for the Legislative Service Office to walk officials through the basics of the process and for members of the public – and elected officials – to provide initial input. K...

  • Hospital district distances itself from foundation

    Sarah Pridgeon|Oct 7, 2021

Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) has dropped the idea of occupying the new Hulett clinic without, at this time, attempting to intervene in the Crook County Medical Foundation’s (CCMF) plans to rent it to a competing company. At last week’s meeting of the board of trustees, Chairman Mark Erickson made it clear that the district does not intend to cease providing services in Hulett or make any changes to the current services on offer. He also clarified that the district is not affiliated with the foundation in any way. During the...

  • CCMSD on edge over vaccine mandates

    Sarah Pridgeon|Oct 7, 2021

Crook County Medical Services District is starting to see difficulties with staffing on the horizon. CEO Micki Lyons last week shared her concerns over the impending federal vaccine mandate with the board of trustees. The announcement from President Joe Biden that all healthcare workers will be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine is, “Causing a lot of stress in our staff,” Lyons said. Many are talking about leaving because they do not want to be vaccinated, which could lead to a situation in which the district must use traveling staff to...

  • Bad medicine

    Sarah Pridgoen|Oct 7, 2021

Ivermectin cannot be used to cure COVID-19 – so where did we get the idea that it can? Why do so many people still want to be treated with a medicine that’s only effective against the coronavirus in a dose that would kill a human being several times over? Wesley Davis (Emergency Nurse Practitioner: DNP, ENP-C, FNP-C, AGACNP-BC) says Crook County Medical Services District (CCMSD) is seeing an alarming increase in the number of patients asking to be prescribed ivermectin. Though these patients are often angry when their request is denied, he say...

  • Why we need a community forum

Brian J. Allfrey, Executive Director, Utah Press Association|Oct 7, 2021

I am not sure what I expected our country to look like in 2021, but I certainly did not expect it to be so fractured and so bogged down in hate. My oldest son was a year old on September 11, 2001. The wave of patriotism following that day gave me hope for the America that my kids would inherit. Fast forward twenty years, and that hope has been overtaken by fear. Fear that our country has become so polarized on every issue that it may not survive. In 1858, Abraham Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand”. Never in Ame...

  • This Side of the Pond

    Sarah Pridgeon|Oct 7, 2021

One of the more common stereotypes about the British is that we have a tendency to be snobbish. I would argue that most of us aren’t, but I’m not going to deny there is a certain sector of society that embraces the sensation of looking down on the choices of others. I’ve never been particularly interested in whether or not Lady Something-or-Other likes my socks, but I did have a revelation this week when society magazine “Tatler” released its latest list of the things that one is and is not al...

Sundance is one of five communities in Wyoming to be chosen for a Wyoming Business Council grant to take part in the Revitalization Roadmap program. The grant pays for the services of Ben Levenger with Downtown Redevelopment, with the overall idea to create a roadmap for the community so that, as Sundance develops, everyone involved knows where they are headed. The Revitalization Roadmap involves four steps, the first of which is “destination discovery,” in which local stakeholders are brought together to develop a collective vision for the...

  • Local positivity rate begins to drop

    Sarah Pridgeon|Oct 7, 2021

The rate of COVID-19 tests coming back with a positive result is slowly dropping in Crook County, which is good news for Crook County Memorial Hospital. Last week, according to Micki Lyons, CEO, the positivity rate had decreased to 17% from a significantly higher 38% just the week before. “It’s slowing down – slowly,” she said. “It’s still much higher than we would like.” The threshold at which requirements change for such things as testing in a long-term care facility is 10%, according to Lyons. When the positivity rate drops below that le...
