100 Years Ago

August 26, 1920

Streets Commissioner Hooper has been doing some good work the past few days in cutting out some of the bumps on street crossings. The prevailing wind storms had swept away the filling, leaving crossings too high for safe travel. A rock ballast is being laid, covered with an earth filling.

Habeas Corpus proceedings brought by attorneys for Frank Hickey on a charge of the murder of Laben Wood were heard Tuesday before Judge Burgess, sitting for Judge Ilsley. After hearing the motions and reviewing the testimony Judge Burgess decided from the inconclusiveness of the evidence Hickey was entitled to admission to bail and he fixed the amount at $5,000.

C.J. Kethman was placed under $1000 bonds for his appearance at the district court at Newcastle for trial on the charge of mayhem. It is alleged that he took off a portion of O.G. Anderson’s ear with his teeth at Osage.

75 Years Ago

August 30, 1945

Charlotte Lamb of Sundance has accepted the position as teacher of the first and second grades in the schools at Osage. Miss Lamb graduated from Sundance high school several years ago and since then has been teaching in the rural schools of Crook County.

A three-year federal aid secondary highway program for improvement of 700 farm-to-market and feeder roads calling for the expenditure of $8,000,000 has been approved by the Wyoming State Highway Commission. The roads in the program include two in Crook County: the Hulett-Aladdin and the Sundance-Upton. The roads will be constructed with state and federal funds.

50 Years Ago

August 27, 1970

Assistant Superintendent Delbert Harbaugh went out on a limb Tuesday and estimated that Monday’s opening enrollment in all Sundance schools will be 570. Estimated enrollment figures include 320 in the elementary school and 250 in the junior and senior high schools.

For those people who may be interested in all the hype about the “Internet”, please make a note on August 29 at Tri County Electric, to join Joe Popham, Information Services manager for an informational program about the Internet.
