After six dormant years, Sundance's American Legion post is proudly bringing its Easter egg hunt back to the community this March.
Once again, little ones will get their chance to root out the goodies left behind by the bunny and fill their baskets to brimming just as quickly as they can.
This will be Legion Post #45's first community-focused event since it re-formed about a year ago. Since that time, under the leadership of Phil Colozzi, Commander, the group has been working hard to establish itself and encourage local vets to take part.
With membership growing and participation also on the rise, Colozzi felt it was time to see how the post felt about its next steps.
"I just asked a question, a simple one: what are we going to do for the community now that we're back and up?" says Colozzi.
The response was immediate and enthusiastic, he said, ranging from working with kids to paint the homes of elderly veterans to honoring Veterans' Day and Memorial Day.
After a keen discussion, the group decided to kick off its year's events by bringing back the Easter hunt that had always been so popular with the community.
"They were all excited about this one," he says.
The hunt has been scheduled for March 30 at 10 a.m. and will be held in the yard at Sundance Elementary School. Young hunters will be split into two age groups to hunt for their eggs.
In case the weather fails to cooperate, a secondary location has been secured: the Big Barn at the fairgrounds.
