Nine Bulldogs headed to state track

As the track season winds down, the Sundance Bulldogs will be sending nine runners on to the state track meet in Casper Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“We had a great regional meet. Many athletes set personal bests,” coach Julie Cross stated. “We look forward to seeing how they compete at the state meet.”

Bailey and Brook Hofland were able to keep their top spots in the discus competition. finishing first and second, sweeping their competition at the regional meet. The first-place finish for Bailey earned her a regional and conference championship in the discus event.

Bailey also took an eight-place finish in the shot put event, moving her on to state in two events. Fellow teammate Rylie Marchant will represent the Lady Bulldogs in the running events as she competes in three events, the 400m, 800m and 1600m, at the state meet next weekend. 

On the boys’ side, Bulldog jumper Keaton Mills was crowned regional and conference champ in the high jump as he took top honors with a jump of 5’9”. Top Bulldog runner Hunter Skeens has qualified for the state meet in four different events: the 800m, 1600m, 3200m races, along with the 1600m medley relay. Teammates Keaton Mills and Josh Pridgeon also qualified in multiple events including the medley relay. 

While not all the Bulldogs tracksters advanced to state, there were others who set their personal bests at the Regional meet this past weekend. Gavin Mollenbrink competed in the shotput and triple jump, Andrew Davis the 800m, 1600m, long jump and triple jump, Decklan Gill ran the 300m hurdles, 200m and put forth his best effort at the long jump, and Jade Weaver competed in the shotput and discus.

The Bulldogs will end their 2021 track season at the state meet in Casper on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Events will kick off Thursday at 3 p.m. with the 3200m run. The 1600m sprint medley will be Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday will have a full schedule of events, with races and events starting at 9 a.m.

Shot Put: Bailey Hofland 30’9” 8th place

400m: Rylie Marchant 1:05:93 5th place

800m: Rylie Marchant 2:32.81 5th place

1600m: Rylie Marchant 6:16.30 3rd place

Boys Regional Placers Headed to State:

800m: Hunter Skeens 2:04.16 2nd place; Keaton Mills 2:08.98 6th place; Ryder Downey 2:11.08 8th place

1600m: Hunter Skeens 4:43.43 2nd place

3200m: Hunter Skeens 10:21.77 2nd place

High Jump: Keaton Mills 5’9” 1st place

Discus: Jameson Fleenor 115’11”; Brandon Davis 111’6” 8th place

Shot: Josh Pridegon 39’11” 7th place

1600m Sprint Medley: Pridgeon, Mills, Downey, Skeens 3:57.36 2nd place
