Lady Bulldogs sweep Dogies

The Sundance Lady Bulldogs held their senior night Thursday as they took on the Newcastle Dogies and what better way to celebrate those seniors than a three-game sweep over their opponent.

Serving was the key to the game on Thursday night and the Lady Bulldogs were unlocking all the doors. Game one started out a back and forth of points as each team was trying to find their spot on the floor.

With the score 13-10 in favor of the Bulldogs, Newcastle decided to take a timeout to straighten things up. This timeout, however, seemed to benefit the Bulldogs more than the Dogies as Ty Holloman stepped up for the Bulldogs by serving eight straight points.

The Dogies were still struggling on the court and with their serves and this allowed the Bulldogs to maintain control and take the 25-12 victory.

Game two found both sides struggling with the serves as neither was able to string together many points in the beginning. With the score 10-15, the Dogies again took a timeout in hopes of gathering together or at least controlling their serve.

Once again, it was the Bulldogs who benefited from the short break. Holloman again gave the Bulldogs the string of points needed to get their offense rolling. Behind some great serving and excellent reactions at the net, the Bulldogs pulled off a 25-14 victory in game two.

The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time in putting points on the board for game three. Holloman again led off for the Bulldogs, stringing together four points from the get go.

She was immediately followed by Cana McInerney, who added five more as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-2 start. With great positioning on the court and excellent serving from the Bulldogs, the Dogies struggled to find an answer.

With the score 17-7, the Lady Bulldogs were ready to close the door on the Newcastle Dogies. Behind the serving of senior Aftyn Marchant, the Lady Bulldogs were able to do just that. Marchant went on to serve seven straight points as the Newcastle Dogies were unable to find an answer for the Bulldogs offense or serving. The Lady Bulldogs won game three, 25-10 and walked away with a three game sweep.

The Sundance Lady Bulldogs will be back on the court Saturday, as they travel to Wright to face the Lady Panthers.
