Lady Bulldogs dominate in season opener

The 2018-2019 basketball season opened up at the Upton Invite this past weekend. The Lady Bulldogs were up against the Midwest Oilers for their first game.

The first quarter started out strong for the Lady Bulldogs as they were able to put up 35 points in the first half. Bailey Hofland and Sherry Negaard led the way with scoring, each putting up 10 points on the night while Jolleen Pollat wasn’t far behind, putting in 8.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to dominate in the second half adding another 22 points to the board for a final score of 57-9.

With a win in game one, the Lady Bulldogs were on the right side of the bracket and looking to build on their momentum. With a tough opponent in Arvada Clearmont, the Lady Dawgs were ready for the challenge.

While both sides were slow to put points on the board, Sherry Negaard and Madison Gill were able to throw in six points each leading the Lady Bulldogs in the book. Negaard, Bailey Hofland and Teddi Marchant were also able to control the boards for the Lady Bulldogs, pulling down seven rebounds each. However, the Sundance girls game up short against Arvada Clearmont with a final score of 19-30.

With a loss in game two, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves playing for third and fourth place, against the Tongue River Lady Eagles. This game was a tight back and forth game.

The Sundance Lady Bulldogs were able to put up 26 points in the first half. With a slow start in the third, the Lady Bulldogs were needing points on the board to pull out a win in the fourth quarter.

Senior Madison Gill led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding putting up 29 points and pulling in 9 rebounds for the game while Aftyn Marchant had the hot hands and quick feet grabbing six steals throughout the game. In the end, the Lady Bulldogs were able to hold the Lady Eagles to 17 points in the second half and come out with the third place finish in the Upton Invite with a final score 51-49.

The Sundance Lady Bulldogs will host the Newcastle Lady Dogies on Thursday for the start of the Stateline Shootout and travel to Belle Fourche to battle the Lady Broncs and Diggers.
