BB teams play Stateline Shootout

SHS Girls

The Lady Bulldogs crossed state lines last weekend to participate in the Stateline Shootout with Belle Fourche, Lead-Deadwood and Newcastle. In this competition, the four teams played a round-robin matchup.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the Shootout with a 43-31 victory over the Newcastle Dogies on Thursday evening. The first half of play showcased a close contest with the Sundance team narrowly leading 20-18, going into the halftime break.

The gap began to widen throughout the second half of play as the Sundance defense stepped up, holding the Dogies to just 13 points. Jaylin Mills led the offensive charge, putting in 15 points for the night.

On Friday, the team traveled to Belle Fourche to meet the first of the remaining two teams in the Shootout. Going up against the aggressive Belle Fourche Broncs, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves down 23-17, after two quarters of play.

The Broncs maintained their tight grip on the tempo of the game throughout the second half, despite the offensive efforts of Jaylin Mills and Lexie Marchant who put up 17 and 10 points respectively for the night. In the end, the Belle Fourche Broncs walked away with a 44-50 victory for the night.

The final matchup of the Shootout came on Saturday afternoon as the Sundance Lady Bulldogs faced the Lead-Deadwood Lady Diggers. Behind the scoring of Aspen Jones, and Jaylin Mills, the Sundance team took a commanding lead and didn't look back. The team walked away with a 59-23 victory over the Diggers.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the Stateline Shootout with two wins, improving their overall record to 4-2. The Sundance team will take a break from competition until January 5 and 6 when they host the 2A East North-South Challenge.

SHS Boys

It was a busy weekend for the Sundance basketball team as they participated in the Stateline Shootout in Newcastle and Belle Fourche over the weekend. The Bulldogs walked away with three wins over Newcastle, Belle Fourche and Lead-Deadwood.

The first opponent for the Sundance Bulldogs was the Newcastle Dogies. The Bulldogs quickly established their dominance on the court, controlling the scoring as well as the rebounding.

Seniors Keaton Mills and Eli Gill led the team in each category, putting up 28 and 15 points, respectively, as well as securing 14 rebounds each, throughout the night, helping the team to a 62-46 victory.

The Bulldogs hit the road again on Friday evening to face the Belle Fourche Broncs. In an unusual start, the Bulldogs only scored three points throughout the first quarter of play.

Down by nine, the team began to find their rhythm and put points on the board, out-scoring the Broncs in the remaining three quarters. The Sundance team shot an impressive 82% from the free-throw line, making 14 of their 17 attempts, in the 58-49 victory over the Belle Fourche Broncs. Keaton Mills, Jake Schommer and Parker Skeens all put up double digit scoring for the Sundance Bulldogs.

It was another impressive win on Saturday afternoon, as the Sundance team rounded out the Stateline Shootout with a 61-52 victory over the Lead-Deadwood Gold Diggers.

With these wins, the Sundance Bulldogs enhanced their standings, moving to a 5-1 overall record. The team will take a break from the hardwood for the holiday season and be back in action in January when they face the Newell Irrigators on the 4th and compete in the 2A East Smackdown in Burns and Pine Bluffs on January 5.
