Lady Bulldog golfers take second at state

The fall golf season has come to a close as the Sundance Bulldogs participated in the 2A State Golf meet in Wright this past weekend. Overall, the Bulldog golfers all fared well against their competition.

The Lady Bulldogs had two top ten finishers at the state meet as Sheridan Schubarth maintained her consistency and took home a second place finish with a score of 191. Teammate Savanah Peterson also finished in the top ten, tying with Upton’s Leah Keever for fifth place, shooting a 208 for the weekend.

Karen Ulmer and Avery Marchant also added a 17th and 18th place finish, rounding out the Lady Bulldogs team. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs scored a combined 677, enough to secure the second place state finish. Schubarth and Peterson were both named All-State.

The competition was also tight on the boys’ side, but the Sundance trio maintained their composure and had another solid finish. Owen Watt led the Bulldogs boys, finishing in 19th place with a score of 204.

Teammate Spencer Lubken was not far off, putting up a 213 for the weekend and Parker Speidel rounded out the trio shooting a 221. Bulldog Owen Watt summed up his first golf season in the following way, “I’ve had a great freshman fall golf season. I set a goal for myself to place in the top ten at tournaments and to place in the top 20 at state. I was able to achieve my goals. I also had the best teammates that helped to challenge me to get better.”

The Sundance golfers will break for the winter and be back on the greens as the spring season rolls around.
