The Sundance Lady Bulldogs were in Big Horn this past weekend participating in the Big Horn Volleyball Tournament. The Bulldogs opened up with pool play on Friday, going against Greybull, Kaycee and Burns.
Sundance split their games against Greybull and Kaycee and swept Burns 2-0. With this, the Lady Bulldogs were put into the Maroon Bracket for Saturday.
The opening matchup on Saturday pitted the Lady Bulldogs against the Wright Lady Panthers. The Bulldogs battled, pushing the first game into extra points, taking a 30-28 victory. Going into game two, Sundance fell short 21-25, which put pressure on the ladies for game three. In the end it was the Panthers who reached 15 first and took the overall victory.
With a loss to the Panthers, Sundance was up against Lingle-Ft. Laramie next. This matchup also went to three games.
The Doggers took the first game 25-19 but the Bulldogs battled back to win the next two and take the set, putting them in the consolation championship against the Kaycee Buckaroos.
The Sundance Lady Bulldogs seemed to be working out the kinks by the end of the tournament as they swept the Buckaroos, two games to none, taking the consolation championship in the Big Horn Tournament.
“We had a lot of fun learning how to play together,” coach Blasczyk stated. “By the end of the tournament we had become a super scrappy, never-quit team showing consistency, confidence and intensity; all things we will need heading into our first week of conference play. The Powder River conference is going to have the toughest teams in the state again this year!”
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Upton to take on the Lady Bobcats and open up conference play on Saturday when they host the Wright Panthers.
