100 Years Ago

Mar. 10, 1921

L.A. Woodward arrived in Sundance Thursday from Spokane, Wash. where he spent the winter season. Mr. Woodward says times are a little backward on the coast and he is satisfied to be back in Wyoming.

John Thorn, county commissioner from Hulett district, went out Thursday with State Engineer Diffendorfor to locate a site for the proposed federal bridge across the Belle Fourche. It is proposed to put in an iron bridge at the crossing near the Devils Tower.

Stockholders of the Sundance Oil Syndicate held a regular meeting at the courthouse Monday, with a good majority of stock represented. Directors were elected as follows: E.F. Ball, C.L. Calvert, Edwin Rounds, M.C. Roberts, H.G. Schloredt. The board organized by the election of M.C. Roberts president, E.F. Ball secretary, C.L. Calvert treasurer.

Mar. 7, 1946

Meeting last Sunday at the Legion hall, Western Saddle club members reelected Mrs. Ed Mathews as their president for the ensuing year and also choose again Pearl Finch as their secretary. The club decided to get pasturage on the lower Mathews pasture and to build a corral there. A committee was appointed to meet with the county commissioners regarding improvements at the fairgrounds.

Bernard DeLancey, a discharged veteran, last week took over the position of teaching the Moorhill school near Hulett. Norma Jean Tromble Stormed resigned the position the week preceding.

Mar.11, 1971

Two county law officers – Sheriff John Peterson and Undersheriff Bob Wilcox – are busy this week presenting a program on drug abuse to various groups in the county. Wilcox said the program features a film, a talk on personal experiences with drug arrests and a display of both legal and illegal drugs and apparatus for intake of the drugs.

The Navy Commendation Medal was presented Feb. 22 to Marine Maj. Charles C. Hedje in Japan. Hejde, who has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hejde is now stationed at Cherry Point, N.C. He is a marine pilot.

A bond issue for an elementary school in Sundance was approved by the Crook County School District No. One board during its meeting in Sundance last Thursday. The board said the bond issue will be voted on by county residents at the regular school election June 22. Supt. Roger Thorson said this week that at the present time, the amount of the bond issue is not yet known. He said further details will be announced soon.
