Robert Larry Hill

Robert Larry Hill, 75 of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2019, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after a ten-day battle with stroke symptoms.

Robert was born on June 5, 1944, in San Diego, California, to Ennis and Mildred Ilena (Jay) Hill. Upon the death of his mom, he was adopted by his grandparents, Zack and Ernie Jay.

He then moved to Seeley, Wyoming, where he went to country school and later graduated high school in Hulett, Wyoming, in 1962, while living with Gary and Winnie Bush. He joined the army in 1964 and was stationed in Hawaii.

While in the service, he married his loving and devoted wife, Lila (Erland), and together they raised four sons in Upton, Wyoming. He ranched and worked for Federal Bentonite until they moved to Belle Fourche in 1988. He continued working for American Colloid until he retired in February 2008.

Robert enjoyed many hobbies including: hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening and caring for his beloved chickens. You could always count on him to tell a good joke or pass the time with a great story. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in all his family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lila; his sons, Bill, John (Linda), Evert (Chipper) and Russell (Jessica); his grandchildren, Ashley (James), Jessica, Jensi (Tom), Alex (James), Megan, Chris (Jenna), Patricia, Jake (Ashlyn), Kali, Sammy; his great-grandchildren, Kaliegh, Taylynn, Oakley, Jaqlynn, Aurora, Priscilla; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn, Sharon (Tom) and Cheryl; his brothers, Tony (Toni) and Don (Kami); and his stepmom, Rosalee.

Robert was preceded in death by his Grandpa Zack and Grandma Ernie; Uncle Bill; Aunt Alice; his dad, Ennis; his mom, Mildred Ilena; and one infant child.

Burial was Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Alva Cemetery in Alva, Wyoming with a Celebration of Life following at the Hulett Senior Center. Memorials have been established to benefit the Alva Cemetery Fund and the Belle Fourche Fire Department.
