  • Convicted pedophile dies in prison

    The Wyoming Department of Corrections announced last week that inmate Fred Schon had died at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Facility in Torrington. In 2021, the 87-year-old was sentenced in Crook County to up to 40 years of incarceration for second degree sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 13. Schon was originally charged with 52 separate felony counts of the same charge. The incidents allegedly took place over a period of approximately four years, according to court reports.     A Minnesota man has been given a suspended sentence on possession charges after both methamphetamine and marijuana were found on his person and in his vehicle during a traffic stop. On October 4, 2023, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was patrolling U.S. Hwy 212 near milepost 16 when he saw a vehicle traveling east at a high rate of speed. Traffic radar recorded the speed at 85 mph in a 70 mph zone.     A Gillette man faces a fourth charge of driving while under the influence after being found asleep at the wheel on the shoulder of the interstate on-ramp. A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper responded on June 13 at 3:13 p.m. to a traffic report about a vehicle that was having trouble staying on the roadway.
