The Sundance City Council is wrestling with a business proposal that will require a variance on the zoning that applies to the downtown area. The Coders, owners of the corner lot on which higbee’s Café used to sit, intend to use the lot to display recreational vehicles, with the building next door as the sales premises. Albert Dwayne Ridgway, Jr. 74, of Aladdin, Wyoming, passed away November 11, 2023, in Rapid City, South Dakota, following a brief illness. Al was born in Wagner, South Dakota, to Albert Sr., and Pearl (Bradley) Ridgway and was the youngest of seven children. On that hot August day, the only member of the family to be born in a hospital. Betty Louise (Carter) Phillips went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 7, 2023 with her loving daughters and son-in-law by her side. Betty was born on October 12, 1940 in Kingstree, South Carolina, the seventh child of nine to Herbert and Hattie Carter. She spent her childhood in Kingstree on a cotton and tobacco farm with five brothers and two sisters (one brother passed as an infant.) 1 Years Ago November 15, 1923 A good crowd attended the corn show in Sundance last Saturday and for a first effort it was an unqualified success, paving the way for future exhibits at a time when conditions are more favorable. The city’s annual efforts to cull deer are underway with 22 animals harvested so far. At last week’s regular meeting, the Sundance City Council heard a report from the two individuals who have been contracted to fulfill the permit, Shad Schloredt and Rusty Speidel. The county commissioners were offended during last week’s hearing by the suggestion that road maintenance decisions have anything to do with racism. Terry McNeil approached the commission to complain about the state of New Haven Rd, which he travels as a driver for the Amish community. BUFFALO — The state of Wyoming continues to recover from the pandemic, with unemployment trending down and the average monthly employment back to pre-pandemic levels. The preliminary numbers for the first-quarter average monthly employment this year was 3187 compared with 2978 in 2020 in Johnson County, according to data from the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.
