Highest Water Known: the Belle Fourche river reached a new high mark Wednesday of last week when it was three feet higher than ever known, caused by five days of rising flood from melting snows on the headwaters. From that time the water receded fast, but the city of Belle Fourche had suffered damage of approximately $100,000. Nearly 100 residences were destroyed and much other damage resulted to bridges, fair grounds and merchandise stock. The farm loss in Belle Fourche valley is considerable, many buildings being washed away. Hulett came through the flood with a nominal loss, although many residents were forced to move out for the time. In Weston County, a number of bridges are reported out on Salt creek and Main Beaver. Oil Creek is high and causing damage near the Donielson ranch and at other points. Skull Creek is the highest it has been for years and the crossing of the state highway near the Bock ranch has been impassable for several hours each day for the past week

The bogged-down caravan that has been carrying Sundance toward a new school building started again, April 14, over an old route. The school boards plan to again advertise for construction bids for the building as soon as specifications and detailed drawings of the building have been prepared. The boards were forced to cancel their previous invitations for bids because of a mix-up over architectural technicalities and the lack of specifications on the plans that had been accepted by the boards.
