Road repair season gearing up

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is getting ready for road repair season, starting with a project expected to be visible on I-90 throughout most of the year and will involve eight individual bridges.

Also confirmed for the season is a striping project on U.S. Hwy 212.

The bridge structure project will be completed by contractors S&S Builders and, weather permitting, began on March 4. It is scheduled for completion on November 30.

The eight bridge structures to be repaired during the project are located between mile markers 152.96 and 147.59 and cross the Belle Fourche River, Donkey Creek, CR68/D Road, Machinery Pass and Well Creek.

Work will include construction of crossovers and installation of guardrail. Traffic will be moved to the driving lanes in preparation to move eastbound traffic onto the westbound lanes, with a two-mile stretch of head-to-head traffic to replace the bridge decks at the Belle Fourche River crossing.

Other structures will undergo deck repairs, including removing portions of the concrete deck, rebar structures and approaches to be replaced with new materials. Following the repairs, a rigid concrete overlay will be placed on the deck to add durability and friction, which reduces ice formation and the risk of hydroplaning.

Meanwhile, the Wyoming Transportation Commission announced that it has awarded Streamline Markings a $217,920 bid for a project that will involve pavement striping and traffic control on around 20.4 miles of U.S. Highway 212. This project has a completion date of August 31.
