Ramey Bros. are making good headway this week on the cement sidewalk for Mrs. Mary Frank’s residence property on Cleveland Street.

Messrs. Leslie Hooper, H.G. Schloredt and Edwin Rounds returned Monday from a few days stay in the Bear Lodge in quest of venison and an outing. They found conditions very enjoyable in the pine timber, the autumn leaves are a beautiful hue, the night air is bracing and mountain spring water very invigorating. Just how many deer they got will never be known.

Dr. J.F. Clarenbach is the latest addition to the radio fans and has his set installed and in good working order. Monday night he received the returns from the sixth-game slaughter of the world series, when the Yankees won the fourth game from the Giants 6 to 4.

Though small parties of men have continued to hunt for the missing three-year-old boy, Mickey O’Connor, who disappeared somewhere into the Bearlodge mountains on October 8, not the slightest clue has been discovered to appoint to his whereabouts. A plea went to Governor Hunt at Cheyenne requesting state help, and the governor replied that if any hope can be held out for finding Mickey alive, he will send a unit of men to help in the search. Col. R.L. Esmay, adjutant general of the United States Army was in Sundance on October 18 where he directed by Governor Hunt to make a personal, on the ground inspection and report. Chances that the boy may be alive appear to be futile.

A red haze, hanging like a lighted curtain over the hills immediately north of Sundance brought telephone calls of inquiry from Upton and various ranch people on Sunday night. M.O. Trego reports he became curious to see what others to the south of town could see and investigated, to learn that those persons calling into his exchange regarding the scarlet hue covering much of the northern sky was no exaggeration. Many people in Sundance noticed the strange phenomenon and speculated about its cause. Very likely it was a special performance of the “northern lights”.

Regarding the bark beetle infestation on Sundance Mountain discussed at the September Commercial Club meeting, Harold Bernd said he had written to Governor Stan Hathaway and Wyoming’s congressional delegation about the situation. He said they all expressed interest in the problem and shared the community’s concern. Bernd said infected trees can be cut and burned to curb the infestation or an acid treatment might be tried, but this can be applied only in September.

The coveted 1972 John Cotton Dana award for a school library publicity program went to Sundance High School during the American Library Association’s annual meeting in Las Vegas. Mrs. Wilma Knutson, librarian for the school for the past six years, earned the award for her outstanding program in stimulating community involvement.
