Marjorie Goodson

Marjorie Viola Watson Goodson was born June 23, 1922, the second daughter of Ralph and Quin (Penny) Watson. She came into this world in the farmhouse of her grandparents, Elmer and Viola Penny, near Petersburg, Nebraska.

She spent her youth on farms around Petersburg before moving to the Four Corners Area when she was about three. From there the family moved to Newcastle, Wyoming where her dad worked at the refinery.

In the eighth grade, her dad took a job building a refinery in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Marjorie made many friends, learned to ice skate, went to hockey games and tried curling.

She finished tenth grade in Canada, then the family moved to Hardin, Montana where Ralph helped build a sugar factory. Shortly thereafter the family moved back to Newcastle, Wyoming.

She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1939, and from Normal School in 1940; then taught at the Kickabush Country School. She took a job waiting tables in the Anchor Café in Sundance where she met Myron Goodson, and they married in Cheyenne, Wyoming on October 18, 1941.

Later they moved to the Goodson Ranch at the head of Government Valley and Myron ranched with his mother, Cleo. Their union bore their first child, Peny, in 1942; followed by a son, Ralph, in 1947.

Myron took a job with the State of Wyoming in 1963 and they moved to Cheyenne. Marjorie went to work for the school food service and took night classes finishing with an associate degree.

She retired after 17 years in the school kitchen and Myron retired soon after, and they moved back to Sundance. They spent several years traveling until Myron passed away April 26, 1999.

In her later years she traveled to Apache Junction, Arizona for the winter where at the age of 86 she got a tattoo, and at 90 she went sky diving. She was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority as well as the Crook County Cattle Women's Association.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Norma, her husband Myron and her daughter Peny. She is survived by her son Ralph (Pat) and grandchildren Matt (Julie), Amy, Jamie (Jim), Joel (Becki) and five great grandchildren.

She spent her final years at Sundance Assisted Care and Crook County Long Term Care facility. Her family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and doctors for their dedicated care.
