A friend of the Times writes the following account of an occurrence in the western hay fields: "While working the hay four miles west of Carlile, Hazel McDaniel and Wain Meglemre found one of the largest tarantulas ever seen in this section. The spider was quiet until they drew up to examine it, then it jumped and both had a narrow escape from being bitten. It was killed and is now in the possession of Wain Meglemre." The tarantula is a poisonous spider from the tropics, and if one is found in this latitude tit is undoubtedly imported with fruit.

By referring to your almanac, you will find that a total eclipse of the sun is scheduled to take place on September 10. This will be the first total eclipse in many years and while we have heard our parents tell of such happenings, it has never yet been our privilege to see one. Be sure and be awake all day on the 10th. You may think it's time to go to bed along in the afternoon, but don't fool yourself, the clock won't be playing tricks on you.
