Homeowners warned of paving scam

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about an asphalt paving company known to be currently attempting to do business in the Sundance area.

This company has an injunction against them from District Court that prevents them from doing business in the State of Wyoming, due to prior damages and civil penalties.

The Sheriff’s Office has stated that the business in question goes by several names, including Gorman Asphalt, J. Gorman, J. Gorman Paving, Gorman Paving and Gorman Asphalt Paving.

Individuals believed to be associated with the business include John Gorman Sr., John Gorman Jr., Bartley or Bart Gorman and Buddy Gorman.

The Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone contacted by any of these individuals trying to do business get in touch with the office at 283-1225.

“We would like folks to be aware of the amount of scammers out there in every facet of our lives,” says Sheriff Jeff Hodge.

“If there are any questions or something seems too good to be true, either do some more checking or call the Sheriff’s Office and we will be glad to confirm the legitimacy of what you are dealing with.”

According to the warning, the City of Sundance requires that asphalt construction companies must have a license to be able to work in town. Only three companies are currently licensed in Sundance: Sacrison Paving of Whitewood, Croell and Powder River Construction.

In the county, a merchant’s permit is required for temporary businesses such as asphalt pavers. There are no active permits at this time.
