Weed & Pest seeks new board member

Crook County Weed & Pest is seeking applicants to fill an unexpired two-year term on its board of directors.

The new director will represent Area 3, which encompasses the northeast corner of the county, bordered to the west by WY 112 and to the south by Hwy 24.

Weed & Pest works towards the long-term management of noxious weeds and pests and to reduce the impacts of invasive species on native plant and animal communities, land and local economies.

The new director will be asked to attend monthly meetings on the second Wednesday at the Crook County Weed & Pest building at 6 p.m. to conduct business, pay bills and overlook operations.

The board’s role is to take responsibility for the district’s facilities, bills, payroll, insurance, tax items and bonds.

The board also periodically adopts policies and procedures, accepts grants from the state, federal government, agencies and individuals and determines cost shares on new chemicals at its discretion.

Board members do not receive a salary, but are compensated for expenses incurred while performing official duties; for example, the board is reimbursed for mileage.

Current board members include Clint Rising, Chairman, Will Ellsbury, Vice Chairman, Alysa Tenke, Treasurer, and Lincoln Driskill, Secretary.

Applicants must reside within Area 3. Interested parties may visit the county website to find a nomination form.

Ten signatures from residents within Area 3 are needed to show support for your application.

This form can then be taken to the County Clerk’s Office to complete the process.
