100 Years Ago

March 29, 1923

John Grice bought an Oldsmobile car this week from a gentleman who was attempting the overland trail. On reaching Sundance, the stranger found he was at the end of the trail until spring opens and concluded to sell his car and proceed by other means. He was accompanied by his family. The trail west of Sundance has been snow-blocked for some weeks, and probably will remain so for another two weeks.

Two inspectors from the office of the Wyoming secretary of state will take the field April 1 to check up motorists who have not complied with the licensing law. Every machine found without a 1923 license will be stopped and the drivers taken before the nearest magistrate.

March 25, 1948

Sealed bids on the construction of a new school building in Sundance will be publicly opened Saturday at the school building in Sundance by members of the high and grade school boards. R.E. Anderson, superintendent said that the board had received inquiries from ten different firms for information on the structure.

The Weston County Gazette said last week that it had been advised that drilling operations will again be resumed on the Bob Pearson ranch located between Sundance and Upton in Crook County near the county line. It is stated that a natural red bed structure is located in this vicinity and there is a possibility that an oil strike may be encountered at ta depth of 1500 feet.

March 22, 1973

Floyd Carr, Sundance was one of four new members appointed last week to the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission by Gov. Stan Hathaway. He succeeds Reg Bafford, Lusk and represents the Sixth Judicial District. Carr is in Cheyenne this week attending his first meeting of the commission.

A variety of business was covered hare Thursday during the regular meeting of the Crook County School District board. During the meeting, the board agreed to purchase the golf course property, on which it had an option, and the Frank Shewey property as the site for the new elementary building.

Joining the staff of The Sundance Times last week was Edward Allen, who will be employed as a printer by the newspaper. Ed, 38, is a native of Newport, Vt. And served four years in the Air Force.

March 26, 1998

Tony Badura is the newest addition to the Sundance Police Department. Badura started his new position last Friday. He came to our area from Chadron, Nebraska, where he served on the police department. Badura is moving to Sundance for the new position, along with his wife Kristen and two children.
