What goes around, comes around

Consignment clothing store opens in Sundance

An hour after opening on Thursday, Karma Consignments was already buzzing with the sounds of customers discussing the fit of jeans and which tops pair best with what pants.

The name, says owner Shannon Pedersen, is a play on the phrase, "What goes around, comes around". She chose it because the store purchases items from customers and sells them pre-loved to new owners.

So, she grins, "We're swapping clothes."

As well as clothing for both men and women, which are accepted in all available adult sizes, the store features housing items and furniture, as well as purses, shoes, belts, hats – "All the accessories," Pedersen says. The consignment process is simple.

"We'll do a 60-40 split. We'll keep 60% and the consigner gets 40%," she says, encouraging anyone with items they'd like to sell to get in touch.

This isn't Pedersen's first rodeo. Her first foray into consignment clothing is still in business over the county line.

"I opened a store in Gillette in 2001, 'Back to the Rack'. We sold it in 2015 and it's still doing amazingly," she says.

Pedersen is confident that a consignment clothing store will be just as well received in Sundance.

"I just think it'll work over here," she smiles. "People are excited about it."

Pedersen was already spending her time in the building, she says, working with her dad, Pat Donahue, as part of the Western Properties real estate team. Doubling up the space worked out well, she says, welcoming the community to come see what items she has on offer.

"We're going to be open right now on Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.," says Pedersen. "In the spring, we will probably be open on Saturdays."

Karma Consignments is located at 304 E. Cleveland Street in the same building as Western Properties. For more information about the store or consignments, call 307-299-0099
