Radio station sending letters from the North Pole

Would your child enjoy getting a letter from one of Santa’s elves? Thanks to a seasonal project from Dirt Road Radio (KYDT-KBFS), this year they can look forward to getting mail straight from the North Pole.

“Any child of eight years and younger will be able to write letters to Santa. As long as they have a return address, we are going to work with the local high school students and student organizations like student council and National Honor Society to write replies to those letters,” says Andrea Wood, organizer.

The return letters will be written on pre-designed postcards and mailed back to the kids. While they won’t be from Santa himself (he’s pretty busy this time of year), they will be written by one of his official representatives.

“The high school students are going to take on the persona of one of Santa’s elves, so they will choose what their elf name is and that’s the character from whom they’re going to write the letter,” she says.

“I think it’s something fun for our community and it pulls the big kids and the little kids together.”

While the high school students will be doing the majority of the letter writing, anyone who would like to become an elf for the project is welcome to contact Wood at 290-0121.

“The more the merrier,” says Wood.

Mailboxes for the letters will be distributed to local businesses on December 1. Kids who write letters to Santa may also enjoy a moment of fame on their local radio station.

“We are going to select some of the letters to be read on air every day,” she says. This part of the program will be sponsored by local businesses.

Letters will be read out by Santa between December 5 and 23.
