Continuing the Crook County News Since 1884

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I’m finding it harder and harder to understand what has happened to the politics in this country and our county especially. I understand being passionate for a candidate or a cause but I don’t understand the hate for the opposing views that seems to come with it these days.

I’ve never seen anyone win an argument by hating the other person the most.

I understand the system is set up as Republicans versus Democrats. The “us versus them”, as they say. So, we became a state full of Republicans because we decided that was the closest part to our core values and beliefs.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t good enough because then we had to split the party again and go with conservative versus moderate. Because some Republicans aren’t Republican enough, I guess.

Well I for one have had enough of playing their game. I’m a Wyoming Republican I vote not for party ideology but for what I believe is best for our state and county. You don’t have to agree with me. I won’t even hate you for it.

What I know for sure is that the majority of the names on that ballot were Crook County citizens. They are our neighbors and friends.

They are the same people that pray for rain with you in the summer and curse the wind in the winter. Our weather is extreme, our politics don't need to be.

Most of us played at some kind of sport in this county at one time or another and, win or lose, we shook hands at the end. Did we forget that lesson as adults?

Did we forget our neighbors deserve our respect, even if we don't agree with them?

We are the United States of America and we need to remember that. As Lincoln said, a house divided against itself will not stand.

Thank you,

Joe Wilson
