Croell Redi-Mix prepares to expand

A zoning change request heralds a potential expansion for the Croell Redi-Mix headquarters in Sundance, with owner Roger Croell telling the city council last week that a significantly sized building to enable the hiring of new staff is on the cards in the near future.

Croell visited the council to explain his request, which would see his property on the south edge of town largely rezoned to industrial. The rezone would encompass all but 300 feet on the western portion of the property, which he said he would like to reserve in case he decides in the future to develop houses there.

Asked for more information on his request, Croell said his business is in need of another building and he feels it should be situated on that land because he already owns it. The new premises would be a $3 to $5 million building, he said.

“We’ve expanded a lot, we’re getting more and more new people in,” he said, telling the council that Croell Redi-Mix’s sphere of influences now stretches to Texas and it’s all handled here, in Sundance.

The process to rezone begins with Croell submitting a letter of request including a map and the names of anyone living within 145 feet of the property. In this case, it is believed there is only one landowner within that radius.

Following this, notice will be sent to affected parties and two public hearings will be scheduled. On Tuesday, the council gave permission for Clerk Treasurer Kathy Lenz to move ahead with the process upon receipt of Croell’s letter.
