Fifth cent tax to continue for four more years

Since voters first approved it in 1990, the Crook County Commission has approved the continuation of the “fifth cent” general purpose tax every four years.

With agreement from all four of the county’s municipalities, the commissioners have once again made the decision to continue the tax.

The fifth cent tax does not need to be reapproved by voters if it is supported via resolution by the county and the ordinance is adopted by at least a majority of municipalities, all of whom have enacted and passed ordinances to do so.

The retail tax is imposed on sales of goods and services within the county. It can be used for general purposes and is distributed between the five entities.

Resolution 2022-15 was passed at the regular meeting of the county commissioners to continue the fifth cent tax.
