Man charged for throwing urine at detention officer

A man who allegedly threw urine at a detention deputy while incarcerated at the Crook County Detention Center faces a felony charge of aggravated assault.

On April 16, the detention deputy reports that his first interaction of the day with inmate Mark Noles was at around 10:30 a.m. At that time, the deputy asked Noles to allow him to take his fingerprints, which he at first declined.

Two hours later, the deputy reports that he began the fingerprint process and Noles was mostly compliant, but continued to complain about having to be booked in. As the process was almost complete, Noles allegedly mumbled something, went back to the holding cell and shut the door.

The deputy reports talking to him through the door and convincing him to complete the process. After Noles then made some phone calls, he was returned to holding and went back to sleep.

A couple of hours later, Noles allegedly yelled for the deputy and appeared to be agitated. The deputy had difficulty hearing him, but was able to make out that he wanted some water.

The deputy reports placing a cup of water on the holding chute. Noles allegedly took a sip of water and dumped out the rest, telling the deputy that urine was “going to be next”.

The deputy backed away, knowing he did not have enough time to close the chute, while Noles allegedly urinated in a milk carton, hung it out the chute and whipped it around, sending urine all over the booking floor.

When he had the opportunity, the deputy reports locking the holding chute, at which time Noles allegedly said faeces would be next.

Noles would then allegedly periodically communicate with the deputy, who tried to communicate with him through the window. The deputy reports that Noles several times accused him of “playing games” and would begin kicking the door or smacking the window with his shoes.

At around 6:35 p.m., Noles allegedly called for the deputy while he was busy and then became agitated and urinated under the door, then scooped water out of the toilet and threw it under the door.

Nolan has been charged with a felony count of aggravated assault and battery on a detention officer, carrying a maximum penalty of five years of incarceration, a $5000 fine or both
