50 Years Ago, April 27, 1972: Honored during the annual Lettermen's Banquet Monday night were these Sundance High School athletes. Pictured left to right are: Tom Ferrell, Athlete of the Year, most valuable football player and quickest pin in wrestling; Randy Proctor, most valuable wrestler; Dale Cornella, most improved wrestler; Janice Livingston, girls Athlete of the Year; Kenny Denzin, most improved football player and most improved basketball player; and Allen Bailey, most valuable basketball player.

Charlie Stagemeyer came down from the Bear Lodge last week, having completed a forty-foot contract for tunnel on the Copper Prince for Messrs. John Belshe and Alfred Nobs. Charlie says that Bear Lodge prospects never looked better than at present, and he expects rapid development from this time on.
Road conditions were ideal in this section, Sunday and many people took advantage of the opportunity for a good ride. The sudden change Monday morning bids fair to gum up the gumbo for a bit. The Spearfish road was in unusually good condition, having been dragged the entire length, but the mud hold on Lake creek, over the South Dakota line, needs a fill of gravel. Several cars had to be pulled out last week.
For several weeks rumors have been current of a gold discovery in the vicinity of Moorcroft. Last Saturday afternoon there was brought to our desk five assays from samples of ore sent from the discovery made by the widely known firm of Lewis and Wasker of Butte, Montana. The location of the discovery is about 16 miles southwest of Moorcroft, from which point it is most easily accessible, and formation is different from anything heretofore encountered in this part of the country.
George Walker, a rancher on Salt creek and a veteran of the Spanish-American war, died Sunday morning from typhoid fever.

Clyde Ice, veteran pilot of Spearfish, has requested Leroy Schloredt of Sundance to check the Sundance vicinity to ascertain if enough veterans could be located, who want to take flight training, to start an organized flying school class here. Ice proposed the training school under the G.I. Bill.
M.O. Trego was named manager of the Sundance baseball club at the meeting of that organization Saturday. Jay Durfee was named transportation officer and John Binney, business manager.
The finance committee of the Sundance Methodist church reports this week that plans are being perfected for a financial campaign to support the project for a new church building for Sundance. They say that 65,000 feet of logs and lumber has been promised and that 45,000 feet of logs are cut and ready for sawing.

Two girls from Sundance have been selected by the American Legion Auxiliary #45 to attend Wyoming Girls State in May. They are Jayme Dark and Lynn Peterson. Sara Morgan was selected as alternate. Three boys from Sundance have been selected to attend Wyoming Boys State, they are Justin Watts, Matt Goodson and Luke Edwards.
