April 20, 1922

The Kokesh sale on Red Canyon Saturday was one of the largest held in this section for some time, and a record crowd was present, despite heavy road conditions. Among the heaviest investors were Ed Mathews and H. G. Weare.

Although only the most meager reports have been received at the Big Horn forest offices, the snowfall in the Big Horn mountains in the past week has been unprecedented. Ranger C. B. Morgareidge at the Hunter ranger station, 14 miles out of Buffalo, reported 39 inches of snow in six days.

75 Years Ago

April 17, 1947

Word was received from Miss Wilma Nuckolls, canteen director serving with the American Red Cross, is that she had been on leave to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo, which proved to be a very interesting trip. Miss Nuckolls started her overseas duty with the Red Cross in June, 1943.

Plans for the building of a new church in Sundance are progressing it is stated by Rev. S.B. Clayton of the Sundance Methodist church, and announced that a public meeting will be held on Friday evening for the purpose of discussing some more or the details and elect a building committee.

Final papers were signed whereby Verne F. Barton and Merritt M. Barton became the owners of the entire holdings of Tom Nefsy and his brother, the late Jon Nefsy. The property is located in Crook, Campbell and Weston counties and consists of 50,000 acres of deeded land, several thousand acres of leased land and 2000 head of cattle.

April 20, 1972

The Hulett American Legion Auxiliary selected Dee Watts as its Girls State delegate for this year. Miss Watts is a junior at Hulett High School. Cindy Stoddard was named first alternate and Bonnie Neilson as second alternate.

Jill Allen, Sundance High School junior was selected as Girls State delegate by the Sundance American Legion Auxiliary. Named first alternate was Bonnie Kipp. Marilyn Schelldorf is named second alternate.

Fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed a two-story house on the Neal Garman ranch northwest of Sundance Friday night. The house, which recently had been extensively remodeled inside, was occupied by Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Gibson. Garman said only a few items were saved from the fire, which had been burning about two hours when it was discovered by Shirley and John Long.

April 17, 1972

Former Sundance resident, Sergeant Dan Solyst, was recently honored as “Sergeant of the Year” for the Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery Unit of the National Guard located in Gillette. Sergeant Solyst is a high school algebra teacher in Medicine Bow.
