100 Years Ago

It is reported that William Thompson has left Co. Derry, Ireland, and is en route home to his Crook county ranch. Evidently Billie had a good time but is satisfied to see the United States once more.

E.A. Bock visited the commercial club Tuesday evening and asked aid in improving the road to the Warren Peaks mines. If this road was open to car travel it would become a popular outing trip for tourists as well as our own people. It would open up good fishing and hunting, and the scenery is unexcelled, commanding a view into five states. The club decided to sponsor the movement and will confer with the commissioners at their next meeting.

Dave Watson was up from Spearfish Saturday and says he has decided to handle his Houston creek ranch himself for a while yet. He will put in dairy cows this summer and try intensive farming.

Mar. 27, 1947

Miss Pauline Dillon left Sundance Friday for Casper to assume her duties at the state FHA office there. The state office was recently moved from Laramie to the Oil City. The new position is a promotion for Miss Dillon. Naomi Helmer has taken over Miss Dillon's duties in the Sundance FHA office.

With the arrival of a new Ford V-8 combination ambulance and hearse, C.D. Roberts, Sundance undertaker, will establish the first of next week an ambulance service in Sundance for the transportation of the ill and injured of Sundance and Crook County. Roberts said that the ambulance would be available for day and night service, adding that he felt this would fill a long-felt need in this community. Ike Dudrey was to take delivery of the new ambulance-hearse the middle of the week and arrive here in the latter part of the week.

Sold at auction Monday of this week, the Durfee ranch southwest of Hulett brought $8.75 per acre or $21,700 for the 2480 acre place. Roy Bush, who owns land adjoining the ranch, was the purchaser.

Mar. 30, 1972

Bonnie Kipp, Sundance, was named district vice chairman during the state FHA convention held in Riverton. Other members of the Sundance Future Homemakers of America chapter attending were Wanda Hejde, Kathy O'Haver and Marilyn Scheldorf.

State Representative Nels J. Smith, a veteran of five terms in the State House, said this week he will be a candidate for re-election.

Sundance High School girls basketball coach Rick Reid has been named Powder River Conference District 2A Coach of the Year for 1997. Reid took his team to the state tournament this year, which is the first time the Sundance girls have gone to State in 15 years.
