Crook County K-9 retires

A distinguished member of Crook County peacekeeping team heads into a well-deserved retirement this week. Wyoming Highway Patrol celebrates K-9 Ally, whose eight-year career has included numerous contraband seizures.

K-9 Ally was assigned to Trooper Josh Underberg. According to Highway Patrol, she has assisted with the seizure of more than 2425 pounds of marijuana, 32.3 grams of cocaine, 34.25 pounds of methamphetamine, .5 grams of heroin, 9.7 grams of other illegal narcotics and one gun.

K-9 Ally was also instrumental in confiscating illicit funds generated from the trafficking of drugs, totaling $644,901. She was deployed 321 times over her years of service.

Her career almost came to an early end two years ago, according to Highway Patrol, when she and her handler were struck by a passing motorist while working a crash. However, despite her numerous injuries, K-9 Ally was able to come back to work after healing.

Her retirement will be spent with her family, the Underbergs.
