The Sundance Bulldog Cross Country team finished its season, competing in the 2A State Cross Country Meet in Ethete, Sat. Oct. 23.
Six Bulldogs competed in the race, each qualifying to run the state meet during the regular season.
Senior Andrew Davis finished in a time of 20:53. Freshmen Holden Ayer and Angel Villegas were neck and neck at the finish line, racing in times of 21:30 and 21:33, respectively.
Junior Kort McLaughlin crossed the finish line in a time of 21:44. Freshman Kyten Johnson ran a time of 23:03, while freshman Wyatt Flahaven finished in 24:42.
The Bulldogs placed ninth out of 15 teams at the meet. Ann Marie Mickle and co-coach Jen Jungwirth note the success of the season, which included young and new runners. McLaughlin was the only veteran state competitor.
"The SHS cross country team faced tough competition at the state meet in the form of many experienced runners. However, they should be very proud of themselves for their effort and persistence," said co-coach Mickle.
"Our mostly freshmen team did very well and Coach Jungwirth and I look forward to them growing as runners."
Overall, the Bulldogs had a successful season. It was exciting to see each runner set goals and achieve most of their goals due to commitment and grit. I am proud of how well each runner competed and grew throughout the season.
Freshman Jager McLaughlin and sixth-grader Carter Croell also attended the state meet, but did not compete in the race.
