The number of cases linked to an outbreak of salmonella caused by backyard poultry has continued to grow and has now been found in 46 states, including Wyoming, according to the Centers for Disease Control. With the addition of another 311 cases, the total number of people who have become ill is now at 474.
The outbreak has now caused 69 new hospitalizations, bringing the total to 103, and one death of a patient in Indiana. One in three sick people is reported to be a child younger than five years old.
The number of illnesses reported in Wyoming has increased to three.
