Plans are now well underway for an old-time celebration in Sundance on Monday, July 4. The ball game is expected to be a drawing card, as Sundance Inside will play the Outside. The Sundance boys have been unlucky in their attempts to beat neighboring teams and now they will have a chance to beat each other. At Monday’s meeting of the Commercial club a committee was appointed to look up the proposition of placing an outdoor pavilion in the courthouse park, the pavilion to serve for the Fourth and also during the Crook county fair.

A tourist from Wisconsin bound for the Park, drove back to town Wednesday morning, having apparently met his Waterloo on the Carlile road. This gentleman had a car with a summer house mounted, and of course carried an exceptional load. At the same time that he failed on the Oak creek hill, the native sons and daughters were driving the road with no trouble.

Mrs. Ed Hoyer is in the Sundance hospital this week recovering from effects of being struck by lightning Monday night about 5 p.m. while she was in her home about five miles south of Sundance on the Newcastle highway. The bolt from the sky struck the Hoyer home as the entire family was in the living room near a heating stove. Mrs. Hoyer, who was holding a child, was struck on the right side, the jolt burning her leg from the hip clear to the foot and ripped a boot clean from her foot, the child was thrown from her arms unhurt; her husband was knocked from the living from into the kitchen, stunned momentarily, but uninjured. The rest of the family were not injured but the shock tore the roof off the house, completely wrecked the heating stove, tore up the floors and broke many dishes.
