One of the most interesting meetings of the season was held at the oil derrick on Hawken dome Sunday. Rev. N.E. Wood preached an excellent sermon to a large audience of people assembled from all points of the compass. Preceding the sermon an old fashioned picnic dinner was enjoyed, which included all the delicacies of the season prepared as only the housewives of this favored section know how to tempt the appetite.

Quite a delegation went over to Hulett Sunday and mourned when Hulett scored 10 to our 8. The worst of it was that Hulett doesn’t claim to have a ball team nohow. Various reasons – too hot, windy, bad umpire, too long a trip. Cheer up, dubs, you sure got a string of victories coming – sometime.

Miss Hazel Mills has just been notified by the State University at Laramie that she won a scholarship by receiving the highest average during her high school career in Sundance. Miss Beulah Richardson likewise received the second highest average.

Meeting last Wednesday the Commercial club made further plans to continue the practice of holding a free July 4 fireworks celebration in Sundance at the fairgrounds lake, and set the date for the display as July 6. Started in the year 1940, the display was again sponsored by the club in 1941, and then discontinued because of the war.

If you are a Crook County resident between the ages of 12 and 16 who can show proof of responsibility, the Catch-A-Calf Contest is for you. The new event, will be held Thursday evening following the Sheep Lead Contest. Those catching calves will be given a heifer calf. For a period of two years, they must care for the animal, show it at the county fair, keep good records, have the heifer bred as a yearling and present reports on the heifer.
