Busy year so far for local business

From the new to the newly renovated, many local businesses are making changes

Construction, moving trucks and for sale signs illustrate what a busy year this has been so far for the business community in Sundance and the surrounding area. Renovations are being made to established businesses, while others are moving to the area either from nearby or further afield.

Grossenburg Implement

The sizeable new building that will soon house Grossenburg Implement is heading towards completion, says Will Yemington, store lead. The structure replaces the 40-year-old building that had been a fixture of the business district since 1979.

Construction of the new premises has been on the docket since Grossenburg Implement took over Sundance Equipment in 2019, as part of the push to increase the efficiency of the business. At this time, the HVAC, electrical and sheet rock are underway and paint will soon be going on the walls.

“We are now working on what we’re calling the finish work,” Yemington says. “It’s coming together on the inside.”

The building will have considerably more capacity, he explains, so, while the equipment and services offered will not change, it will be better able to house the “sheer volume and size of the equipment.”

He expects construction to be complete within the next two months.

Meadowlark Trailer

What began as a hobby has become a career for Jere Hege, who has launched Meadowlark Trailer LLC with wife Elissa at 2409 E Cleveland St. The new RV sales and repair company is now available to fix issues such as brakes, lights and wheel bearings for your RV, camper or horse, cattle or boat trailer, as well as to perform regular maintenance on your vehicle.

RVs need to be winterized, while maintenance is a good idea on an annual basis in the spring, says Jere, when it comes time to get them ready for use. Meadowlark Trailer is able to flush the water systems and check the AC, heating, battery, fridge, stove and other equipment.

Repairs are done on the premises, though Jeri can also make home visits if inconvenient or if your vehicle cannot be moved. In the near future, the Heges also plan to include the service that introduced Jere to RV repair: purchasing used RVs, fixing them up to make them serviceable again and then selling them on to the public.

“Most of my career so far has been in construction – before we moved here, we did mostly log home construction – but over the last number of years, as a sideline I got into buying RVs with a little bit of damage and repairing them and selling them. I did well at that and enjoyed it, so we decided to do it a little more full time,” he says.

Speidel Gallery

Having purchased the corner lot across from the post office in downtown Sundance, popular local artist Bruce Speidel is now hard at work constructing a new building on the site. Ultimately, the one-story building will house both the artist and his gallery.

“It will look like an old, square-front store,” he says. “We’re hoping around August to be open.”

Speidel himself has been taking care of the groundwork and hopes to begin pouring concrete late this week.

“The concrete has to cure for around ten days or so, and then Four Aces will throw the shell up,” he says. Once the building is up, Speidel will begin framing the inside.

The front will feature gallery space for his landscape, wildlife and portrait paintings, behind which will be his offices and living space. Speidel will be moving into the building from his current gallery at 110 N 5th St.

Pinnacle Bank

Pinnacle Bank’s new Loan Production Office in Sundance will be hosting a grand opening BBQ on May 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The branch officially opened at 406 East Cleveland in February.

“This event is much more than just a ribbon cutting – we want it to be a celebration the wonderful people of Sundance, and surrounding areas, will all enjoy,” said Kristen Keeline, branch manager. “We hope the entire community will join us for some good food and fun.”

The event is expected to include food and refreshments, a ribbon cutting ceremony, awards of donations to local organizations and grand prize drawings including a Traeger grill, a Devils Tower Golf package or $500 in Sundance Bucks.

Family Dollar

Family Dollar has announced the grand opening of its branch in Sundance at 2714 Cleveland St. The now-open store stocks $1 Dollar Tree merchandise as well as additional coolers and freezers and a selection of food, beauty, essentials, household products and seasonal items.

According to Family Dollar, a store of this size typically employs between six and ten associates and interested applicants can apply at the store or online at familydollar.com/careers.

“Family Dollar is proud to be a part of the community and we are excited to welcome existing and new customers to our new store,” said Jim Van Slyke, Family Dollar spokesperson. “The store will provide even greater value and convenience to our shoppers.”

Discreet Ballistics

Discreet Ballistics is close to completing its move to this area, all the way from New Hampshire. The manufacturer of subsonic ammunition will soon be delivering its products nationwide from a property here in Sundance.

Owner David Stark chose Sundance as the new location for his manufacturing facility because this is a firearms friendly area with a qualified workforce, while his believes New Hampshire is on the cusp of enacting more stringent gun laws. Stark is about to close on a property, he says, and is in the process of getting things in order, “but expects to be hiring some more folks in the next few months.”

He hopes to organize a range day at some point during the summer months in order to demonstrate the company’s products to the Crook County community.
