Nov. 11, 1920

Armistice Day, 1920 will not present the boisterous features that characterized it in 1918. This year it will resemble a memorial and to that end President Wilson has issued an order directly that on Sunday Nov. 14, the United States flag shall be displayed at half-mast at all military posts, naval stations, on vessels and on buildings of the United States “as a token of the Nation’s participation in the memorial services held for the heroic American soldiers, sailors, marines and others who gave their lives to their country in the World War”.

Owing almost entirely to lack of water pressure and apparatus, Upton suffered a loss of $40,000 Wednesday when the school building , with a new $20,000 annex not quite completed, was totally destroyed by fire.

Nov. 8, 1945

Thoughts of Crook County people will be with every one of their boys and girls now serving in the armed forces as well as those who have been discharged, as they bow their heads in grateful tribute to those who have paid the supreme sacrifice for their country in this and all other wars, when they gather in Sundance Sunday, November 11. On this anniversary of the end of World War I, the Crook County Honor Roll Memorial, which contains 639 names, will be dedicated. Of these, 23 name plaques bear the Gold Star, denoting their final sacrifice.

Marjorie Hejde, 15-year-old Crook County girl, is the winner of the state 4-H style review, according to an announcement received this week from Miss Mae Baird, 4-H agent at the University of Wyoming. As state winner, she will receive a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago.

Nov. 12, 1970

Sale of the Rodeo Bar in Hulett by Leonard and Johnie Singert was announced last week. New owners of the bar are David McLaughlin and Soren Ostby, both of Hulett.

Nineteen Sundance junior high band and chorus members will participate in the northeast junior high music clinic at Buffalo. Band members attending will be Andrea Lee, Ellen Pickerd, Jan Cressman, Cindy Sprague, Brett Gaylord, Sandy Bernd, Monty Moeller, Kenny Rathbun and Steve Mills. Chorus members who will attend are Jan Orr, Donna Crowford, Kathy O’Haver, Lois Barnes, Syd Orr, Brian Bridges, Bill Hopson, Bill Hoyer, Bruce Brack and Galen Moline.

Nov. 9, 1995

The highlight of Veterans Day, November 11, 1995, will be dedication of the newest portion of the Crook County War Memorial. The new portion of the War Memorial was set in place on Tuesday October 31. The new monument lists service people who served in Panama, Grenada/Lebanon and the Persian Gulf.
