April 21, 1920

Harry Schloredt has purchased the J.G. Bush residence and will occupy the new home as soon as practical. Mr. Bush is preparing his household furniture for shipment to the home in Oakland, Calif., which he purchased a few months ago.

During the blizzard last Saturday the extension flue from the chimney of the Sundance Pharmacy was blown down and the chimney damaged so it was unsafe to have a fire. Consequently the well established and reliable hours of the store being open to the public was slightly interfered with.

John Barton, a nephew of the Nefsy brothers, was in Upton this week with a view of opening a law office. Mr. Barton returned to Omaha with the expectation of coming here in about a month.

April 26, 1945

Walt Tracy of Sundance was elected district commander of the American Legion at a meeting Monday evening at Gillette. The district comprises the five counties of Campbell, Sheridan, Johnson, Crook and Weston.

On May 1 the Bear Lodge Fire Suppression camp will again open at the Rueter Springs location for the fourth year. With Floyd Carr as foreman, this year’s crew will include Dick Durfee, Bud Stagemeyer and Leonard Fall of Sundance and Jack Newman of Hulett. Mrs. O.C. Dinkins will be cook at the camp this year. Because of the cold weather and plentiful moisture the Warren’s Peak Lookout station will not open until later.

April 23, 1970

Construction of a drive-in movie theater in Sundance started last week but Fred D. Tschetter, Sundance co-partner in the venture with Gerald Bullard, Upton, said Wednesday work is being delayed by the weather. Tschetter said it had originally been planned to open the new drive-in June 1 but that the opening date was indefinite now because of the weather.

Deborah Proctor, Sundance, a sophomore at the University of Wyoming, has recently received several honors at the university. Miss Proctor was elected senator from the College of Education at the recent election on campus.

Construction of the Crook County historical museum, long a dream of many residents, was started last week at its location in the basement of the county courthouse. Sundance contractor Ezra Stransky started work on the museum last week. This week walls and partitions are up and Stransky was installing paneling. Sundance Electric is installing the wiring and the suspended ceiling.

25 Years Ago

April 27, 1995

Two Sundance men placed high in the Lead old timers wrestling tournament held April 22. Chuck Seamands won the championship in the 140 lb. class while Todd Seeley placed second at 152 lbs.

The Maupin Memorial Youth Rodeo held each July in Sundance will come to an end. After seventeen years, the Symonds’ family has decided to discontinue the rodeo. This was a very difficult decision to make because of the tremendous support the rodeo has always received from the entire tri-state area.
