Students enjoy forest walk

Wyoming Project Learning Tree and the Wyoming Tree Farm Committee jointly organized and hosted a “Walk in the Forest” for 43 Sundance Elementary students and staff; third grade through sixth. The forest walk had four learning stations placed along the trail route, where forestry management- and wildlife habitat-related activities were conducted by volunteers from Wyoming State Forestry Division, Wyoming Tree Farm landowners, NRCS, Wild Turkey Federation and the Audubon Society.

The students learned the importance of sound forestry management practices for long term healthy forests that provide good habitat for diverse wildlife populations and improved summer grazing for livestock.

Funding for the “Forest Walk” was provided by a grant from the American Forestry Foundation which is the parent organization for the American Tree Farm System and the Wyoming Tree Farm landowners committee. Forest Walks are already being discussed for future years.
