Defense rests in Smith trial

Both the prosecution and defense have now rested in the trial of the State of Wyoming vs. Marty Smith. Smith stands accused of several felony counts related to her alleged role in the homicide of Doug Haar on August 1, 2018.

Proceedings began on Tuesday morning with the selection of the jury and continued into the afternoon as the prosecution called its witnesses. Once the prosecution rested on Wednesday morning, the defense called its own witnesses, including Smith herself.

Court was recessed at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and will reconvene in the morning for closing statements and jury instructions.

The jury will then retire to deliberate and consider its verdict on charges including accessory before the fact of murder in the second degree as well as accessory before the fact of voluntary manslaughter; accessory before the fact of involuntary manslaughter; and accessory before the fact of aggravated assault and battery, all felonies.
