Fire restrictions are no longer in place across Crook County. As of Saturday, Fire Warden Doug Leis and the Crook County Commissioners have rescinded the open burn restrictions that have been in place for the last several months. Michael "Mike" Dean Cranston, 70, of Moorcroft, Wyoming, passed away on October 15, 2022, in his home after a recent diagnosis and furious battle with cancer. Mike was born in Newcastle, Wyoming, to Earl "Gene" and Wyoma Cranston on June 18, 1952. He was the fourth of eight children. Clell Richard "Dick" Claar, 75, of Moorcroft, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Dick was born on September 22, 1947 to Clell R and Evelyn (Kimsey) Varner in Alameda, CA. He graduated high school in Aurora, CO. After high school, he returned to Moorcroft and met his lifelong love, Johnnie Faye Farnsworth. They were married in Newcastle on November 26, 1965. Black Hills National Forest officials are proposing to restore the Moskee burn area, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Sundance off Moskee Road. In August 1936, a wildfire burned approximately 4700 acres on National Forest lands and 2400 acres on private lands near the old town of Moskee.
