Last Thursday was the Drama Showcase and, in preparation for the upcoming State Thespian Festival, the Sundance Theatre Troupe performed monologues, duets and a dance number as well as the one-act comedy play Squad Goals by Don Zolidis.
Josephine Julian played the intense and sometimes inappropriate but lovable Coach Morrison, who, along with her assistant Coach Weebly (Ronan Jones), who harbors some not-so-secret emotions for her, hold tryouts to find one more player to fill out their basketball roster. Assisted by the squad (Gracie Davis, Klase Hento and Madeline Fleenor), the coaches try to bring out the best of the zany, rag-tag group of misfits that show up for tryouts.
Accompanied by somewhat accurate recaps of sports movie plotlines and inspirational music, the candidates (Izzy Fisk, Shelby Treadway and Lily Rea) show off their moves with an imaginary ball, a balloon, on their knees, acting like a dog and, of course, in slow motion.
We had a lot of help from our tech guru, Josh Crews, who handled the audio and lighting like a pro, and Kristin Buckman, who helped Lily with choreographing her dance.
