Unemployment rises in Crook County

Like much of Wyoming, Crook County saw a modest rise in its unemployment figures at the end of last year. Data released by the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (WDWS) shows that the county was joint third in its rise in unemployment between November and December.

The increase from 2.4% to 2.9% still left the county significantly lower in its overall unemployment rate than the state average of 3.7%.

WDWS cautions, however, that the rise in unemployment is not unusual for the time of year. Unemployment rates often rise due to the winter weather, which causes seasonal job losses in sectors such as construction.

However, 2.9% is also an increase from unemployment rates in Crook County the year before. In December, 2021, WDWS recorded 2.5% unemployment.

During the same year-to-year period, Crook County saw its labor force rise from 3672 to 3709 people.
