February 1, 1923

The Homestake Mining Company of Lead have properties adjoining that of the Peerless Company near Gillette. Although not yet as well developed as the Peerless, coal is being mined there and rumor has it that development of the property will commence this year. It has also been reported that an electric railroad will be constructed from the Homestake mine near Peerless to the Homestake properties in South Dakota.

Farmer, rancher, stockmen, freighter and friends – after a great deal of talk, an effort is being made to collect by subscripptioon enough money to build a bunk house and possibly a small corral with shed at or near Rocky Ford, for the free use of everyone who needs to spend a night on the road. Joe Farrell, Sundance; C.H. Roberts, Rocky Ford; Henry Lincoln, Williams Divide; Conda Chaffin, Juneath Bros. and E.M. Harper have subscription blanks, sign your name and make your donation. If enough funds are not to be had, all money will be returned.

75 Years Ago

February 5, 1948

Our congratulations go this week to Warren Evans, son of Bert Evans, on his showing made at the Omaha market with his corn fed hogs which topped off the market at $28.00.

The Moorcroft City Council, in a petition that will be mailed to Governor Lester C. Hunt, is asking that the Governor take action that will assure the building of the proposed new section of highway 14 over the Keyhole Dam which will soon be under construction. The group maintains that the road routed this way will be more scenic and just as feasible as other proposed routes.

A large crowd turned out at the Legion hall Tuesday night to hear and see the Hillbilly Jamboree from Nashville, Tennessee, which was sponsored by the local Legion post. Those who attended thought the show was fine and wished more entertainment along these lines and other could be brought into Sundance.

February 1, 1973

Planning for a new community building in Hulett continued last week when the building committee, at its second meeting, heard Fred Tschetter discuss features of the type of building which has been proposed. During the meeting, the board was given the option to buy 25 feet of land east of the present American Legion hall. The proposed new building will utilize the site of the present hall. Pledges can be sent to committee officers Robert Jahnig, president; Freida Dent, treasurer; Wayne Shaw, vice president; or Mary Lou McRann, secretary.

A new business, Pizza Villa, will have its grand opening Monday, Mrs. Alice Schloredt, owner—operator said this week. The business will be located on Main Street in the building adjacent to the TCEA headquarters building.
