Winning week for Lady Bulldogs

SHS Girls

The Lady Bulldogs opened their conference play on the winning side last week with victories over the Wright Panthers and the Big Horn Rams.

It was a tough go for the Sundance team throughout the first half of play against the Panthers on Friday as the Lady Bulldogs went into the halftime break trailing 14-27. Scoring only three points throughout the second quarter, Sundance was looking for a way out of their scoring slump.

The second half play, however, saw a different team emerge from the locker room. Out-scoring the Panthers 37-18, the Lady Bulldogs overcame their initial deficit to take a 51-45 victory over the Panthers.

Lexie Marchant led the scoring charge for the Bulldogs, putting in 17 points on the night as well as securing seven rebounds. Teammates Jaylin Mills and Savanna Williams also added 16 and 10 points respectively throughout their second half comeback victory.

It was another exciting game for Bulldog fans on Saturday as the Lady Bulldogs pulled out a narrow 65-64 victory over the visiting Big Horn Rams. In a game that went down to the wire, the Lady Bulldogs were able to maintain their composure and put points on the board when it was needed.

Savanna Williams was the top scoring Bulldog on the night, dropping in a season high 24 points, 15 of which came from behind the three-point arc. Teammate Jaylin Mills also put up an impressive 19 points on the night, shooting 80% from the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs hope to continue in their winning ways as they hit the road for three games this week. They will compete in Hill City on Thursday, Moorcroft on Friday and Lusk, against Burns, on Saturday.

SHS Boys

The Sundance boys basketball team took on two tough conference teams last week, falling to the Wright Panthers and the Big Horn Rams. The Bulldogs stayed with the Panthers for the first half before the Panthers ran off with the 62-36 win in Wright on Friday night.

The Bulldogs trailed the Panthers by only three points, 20-23, at halftime before being held to just 16 points in the second half. Two Bulldogs made it to double digit scoring for the Bulldogs; Eli Gill had 13 for the night and Jake Schommer chipped in 10.

It was another tough game on Saturday for the Bulldogs as the Big Horn Rams came to town. Toting a 10-2 overall record, the Rams jumped up with the initial lead and maintained it throughout the game.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs once again had two players in double digit scoring with Jake Schommer leading the way putting in 15 points on the night followed closely by Eli Gill who added 12. The Bulldogs suffered a 45-61 defeat to the Rams and moved to a 6-8 overall record, 0-2 in the conference.
