100 Years Ago

December 28, 1922

Last Sunday morning a burning chimney set fire to the kitchen roof of the Ball residence. Prompt action prevented a serious blaze and damage was minimal.

Rev. and Mrs. J.S. Gillespie arrived Friday from Gillette to make their future home in Sundance. Rev. Gillespie has accepted the pastorate of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and conducted services Sunday morning and Christmas morning.

Christmas Day was generally observed in Sundance. The weather turned warm and pleasant, and many family gatherings enjoyed the spirits of the day together. The matinee “Penrod” at commercial hall passed a pleasant afternoon for many. In the evening a most enjoyable dance was given to a large attendance.

75 Years Ago

January 1, 1948

B.C. Quint was in Sundance Saturday and announced that he had leased the Wonderview Station on Sunny Divide from Mr. Kennedy and had purchased the stock of J.D. Sampson, who has been operating the station. He said he would take over January 1.

Mrs. Marie Anderson was hostess on the afternoon of December 30 at a birthday party honoring Mrs. Roark. Guests were Mrs. Ray Good, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Helmer, Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Zane, Rose Farrell, Mrs. Sid Harvey and the guest of honor.

Mr. Harold Lee Dorsett, son of Mrs. Marie Dorsett of Sundance, Wyoming was one of more than 500 students to receive degrees at the fall convocation exercises of the George Washington University. Mr. Dorsett was awarded the LL. M. degree. He received his LL. B. degree from the university in 1942.

December 28, 1972

No loss was reported following a break-in over the weekend at Lee’s Pharmacy in Sundance, the Crook County Sheriff’s office said. Undersheriff Robert Wilcox said entry into the building was made by breaking a second-floor window. He said the person or persons climbed on top of the Jack and Jill Shop building and broke the window on the south side of the Lee’s Pharmacy building. Wilcox said store owner Lee Schloredt reported that nothing was apparently missing.

The Crook County Hospital Board said Wednesday that Dr. Thomas E. Brown and Dr. Sol White received clinic equipment Tuesday and that both are now practicing in the Sundance Medical Center. Additional equipment for the clinic is expected to arrive shortly.
