September 21, 1922

Reports from the prairie are to the effect that the small grain crop is excellent. Those threshing find the wheat to be of excellent quality and good production to the acre.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thompson and family, residents of Newcastle for some time, moved the last of the week to Beulah where Mr. Thompson will have charge of the mill.

Dan Owens, treasurer of school district No. 2 at Colony, informed Roy Esmay that no school will be allowed in this part of the district until the indebtedness of district No. 18 has been paid off. This means that seventeen children who would have attended the Consolidated school are out of luck. And not only are these children deprived of a school but our taxes have been increased by the consolidation of districts 2 and 18.

September 25, 1947

Charles Stagemeyer, county trapper, believes that the coyote population in Crook County is at its lowest point in the history of the county and to support his claim says that a good many sheep men in the county do not even have herders nowdays.

Two more new houses are nearing completion in Sundance. The residence of Frank Blakeman east of the school house will soon be ready for occupancy as will a Gamble prefab house being erected by Welfriede Schloredt in the south part of town.

Sundance Police Chief Joel Morgan has submitted his resignation to Mayor Jim Miller. The Mayor has appointed Officer Todd Fritz to be the new police chief. Confirmation of the appointment by the Sundance City Council will be on the agenda for the regular October meeting.

As of Oct. 1, the Log Cabin Café will be owned and operated by Bill and Judy Sipe of Sundance. Larry and Peggy Warner, who have owned the café for almost six years, will still be working in the café for some time. The service and home-style meals will stay the same with a few new surprises planned by the Sipes.
