Bulldogs host high school track regular season finale

The regular season for track and field came to a close on Friday as the Bulldogs hosted their annual invite. With the sun shining and a slight breeze in the air, many Bulldog athletes found themselves ending the regular season with a new personal record (PR) or pre-qualifying for state.

"We did awesome," coach Julie Cross commented. "Our athletes were breaking their PRs throughout the entire meet, we couldn't have ended the regular season in a better way!"

Many Bulldog athletes worked their way into the top spots of their events. On the men's side, Keaton Mills took the top honor in the 800m race with a time of 2:11 and teammate Holden Ayer took the top spot in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.04.

Ayer was followed closely in the race by teammates Deklan Gill and Gunner McLaughlin, who finished 3rd and 4th respectively. With a slight change in runners, multiple Bulldog relays on the men's side were able to improve on their qualifying times for state as well.

For the women, the Hofland sisters continued to dominate the field events for Sundance, taking 1st and 2nd place in the discus competition and 3rd and 4th in the shot put. In the running events, sophomore Rylie Marchant claimed the crown in the 800m run with a time of 2:38.

Marchant also had a top eight finish in the 200 and 400m runs. The Lady Bulldogs also qualified their 1600 medley relay composed of Brook Hofland, Bailey Hofland, Rylie Marchant and Zoe Skeens for the state meet.

The Bulldogs will travel to Newcastle on Friday and Saturday to compete in the regional track meet. The running and field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Those that are not prequalified still have a chance to make it as the top eight from each individual event will advance to the state meet in Casper the following week.
